SERMONS

FROM OUR PASTOR

Good morning Above and Beyond,

Hope everyone has had an amazing week. It has been a little gray. We may get a little sun today, but the rain is coming back this weekend, but it doesn’t matter. It is Advent season. Christmas is right around the corner. But when I say Christmas, I don’t just mean Christmas in the commercial sense. I mean, celebrating the birth of Christ and the real reason for the season.

What is a myth? A story about someone or something that some claim to be true but is usually a fable.

Though Christmas has a lot of other fun perks (such as caroling, buying gifts, decorating the tree, and fighting people in the parking lot of Walmart for the best deals) we know that celebrating the incarnation of God’s Son is what it is all about.

The real Christmas message goes far deeper. It heralds the entrance of God into human history. It is Heaven descending to Earth. It is as though a trumpeter had taken his stand upon the turrets of time and announced to a despairing, hopeless, and frustrated world the coming of the Prince of Peace. It answers all the great questions that plague the human race at this hour. The Christmas message is relevant, revolutionary, and reassuring to us today. I believe it can be summed up in three words: a cradle, a cross, and a crown.

On that first Christmas night, the Bible tells us about the angel coming to those fearful shepherds and saying, “Fear not, I bring you good news” (Luke 2). This is the true meaning of Christmas—the Good News—that God sent His only Son to Earth to save people from their sins. Christmas is not a myth, not a tradition, not a dream—it is a glorious reality.

Join us for the first message in this three-part series entitled, “Christmas Myths” with part 1 entitled, “Don’t Miss the Real for the Hype: The Birth of Christ is Real but Christmas is all Hype”. Join us for a life-changing message that will give a greater perspective on the real reason for the season. Unto us a Savior has been born.

Hope everyone is encouraged this week, be encouraged and do know you’re not alone in this season. God is still working behind the scenes even when you don’t see him or you can’t feel him, he’s still working behind the scenes.

I would like to encourage each and everyone of you all who have joined the church wide fast to be encouraged on the fast and keep praying and seeking God over these next two weeks. Sunday, we’re going to be talking about fasting, and Sunday’s message is entitled, “Watching Our Bellies” from the series, “Not Until After 21 Days: The Benefits of Corporate Fasting”. As we continue this 21 day fast, let’s prepare our hearts and our minds to learn how we have to have better control over our appetites so we can seek his presence and seek his glory in our lives.
